People visiting hotels and other places in these countries from other parts of the world inadvertently brought these pests with them. Similarly, people from the US, when they visited other countries managed to carry these pests back home with their personal belongings and that is how these insects got a new lease of life in developed countries.
The lack of awareness about the presence of these pests and how they managed to sneak back explains why there is always a delay in spotting bed bugs bites and why people affected are not able to take immediate action. Many a time the individual affected assumes it is due to mosquitoes or some kind of an allergic reaction and lets it be. By the time the right diagnosis is done, these pests are able to breed within the homes and increase their numbers so much that it becomes difficult to get rid of them totally. It is at these times that the services of a professional exterminator are called upon as the house owners are not able to drive these pests out on their own.
One more reason was that the people bitten did not immediately notice or experience drastic skin reactions. Bed bugs leave tiny red punctures in a particular pattern but it is only over time that these start itching and causing discomfort.
