Bed Bugs Rash - Not A Pleasant Sight

Bed bugs rash certainly does not make for a pleasant sight. Not only does the skin look bruised, the individual makes it worse by constantly scratching it. The result is that the area gets reddish and swollen. The patch seems to stand out as compared to the rest of the skin area and this makes it pretty embarrassing to the individual suffering from it. Unfortunately, a victim of bed bugs skin rash or even scabies rash has very little choice but to scratch the area. That is because the itching sensation is so compelling and strong that getting relief just leaving it as it is does not help.

Remember that bed bugs pictures and particularly bed bugs rash pictures always show parts of the face, neck, exposed arms as the most affected ones. Since these are the most visible, it is natural that the individual feels extremely embarrassed about it. Over some time when they do not heal, the individual begins to feel more and more conscious about them and this leads to depression. The individual also stops going out of the house and does not want to meet people. So though these bed bugs rash themselves are not dangerous, the side effects are something that can be pretty disconcerting to most people.

So what causes them and what are the bed bugs signs you should be looking for?

Bed bugs rash are caused by bed bugs and that should be obvious to you. But it is the manner in which they happen that is interesting. Most individuals do not even become aware that they have been a victim of bed bugs bites till they actually start feeling the sensation of itching and see red punctures on their skin. This happens after many nights of being bitten by the bugs. When these insects bite you to suck the blood, they do not cause any pain during the process or after it. That is because they typically carry out their operation during late night or during dawn and this is the period when most of us are deep in slumber.

That is not the end of the story though. These bed bugs suck blood through the proboscis they have and when they insert these ultra fine and thin proboscis into the skin, they also release a chemical that gets into the blood stream quickly. This chemical produces a drowsy effect and the individual already in deep sleep does not even feel the pests sucking his blood. This action continues night after night and the punctures made on different areas of the skin appear as tiny ones in a particular cluster or sequence. Normally, because they do not cause any itching immediately or pain, the individual tends to ignore them or even when he sees them, he attributes them to either allergy or mosquito bites.

This is where the bed bugs gain an advantage. It gives them the time to feed and breed with impunity and they quickly increase their numbers in the house of the host. Bed bugs cannot fly and therefore their only source of food is the human blood that is warm and ideal for their metabolism. The fact that they cannot fly is a blessing because they are then unable to cause any infectious diseases. But this is also the reason why they have to seek food from where they are and that is how they remain in a particular house hidden during day time and become most active at night.

Even in cases when the individual notices the punctures and seeks the opinion of the doctor, many times the doctors too diagnose it as mosquito bites or allergy and treat the patient accordingly. During this process, precious time is wasted and the bed bugs get the opportunity to multiply their numbers rapidly. They are prolific breeders and due to their extremely small size cannot be seen during the day time when they remain hidden in the recesses of wood furniture, within the seam linings of mattresses or inside the folds of curtains and other soft furnishings.

What are the bed bugs symptoms to look out for?

In addition to the red tiny punctures on the skin, there are other tell tale signs that you can look for in your house to confirm bed bug infestation. Check out the bed lining and mattresses during night with torchlight to see if you can spot movements of tiny flat bodies scurrying around for cover. Look out for an unusual odor that permeates the room which is infested. This is released by the glands of the pests – scent glands. You can also look out for egg shells, molting, brown excrement or even dead bugs.

If you find all these, it means that these pests have been in your house enjoying a nice holiday at your expense. The color of their flat oval bodies would also reveal the extent of feeding they have been able to manage in your house. Dark or black bodies mean that they have been well fed and light brown or colorless ones indicate that they have not been very active in feeding and may have just entered your house.

It is important to not confuse bed bugs rash with skin rash arising out of some allergy. Usually, skin rash is not restricted to a specific area and may spread to other parts of the skin as well. That is a manifestation of some sort of allergy against a particular food, drink or clothing material. Humid weather and heat can also cause skin rash.

Bed bugs rash on the other hand is generally restricted to the areas where the bed bugs have sucked the blood and are distinguished by tiny red marks in a specific arrangement. If you find areas of your neck, back, face or arms bearing marks in some series or sequence, then you should understand that you have been bitten by bed bugs and must take necessary bed bug treatment steps to eliminate them.

Bed bugs extermination measures need not involve the use of pesticides or anything harmful to humans. Since you and your family members are going to occupy the bedroom, it is essential to make use of stuff that is healthy and does not cause any side effects in humans. There have been cases of respiratory problems faced by small children and elders in some families that used bed bugs sprays. You need to identify organic, toxicity free bed bug sprays in the market and use them.

Normally, you should be able to find immediate relief from bed bugs but if they have been in your house for a long time, then you would have no option but to call upon the services of a professional exterminating agency to do the needful for you. They would know what methods to apply and where to direct the spray so that your house becomes totally free of these pests. You can also get some guarantees from them.
